Valle Isarco Chestnut Weeks
from 22rd October to 8th November 2009
Place: Valle Isarco/Eisacktal
Another initiative of the “Keschtnrunde” is the Keschtnweg. It runs northwards from Bressanone/Brixen through the chestnut woods, vineyards, meadows and pastures on the western side of the Valle Isarco through Varna/Vahrn near Bressanone/Brixen, Velturno/Feldthurns, Chiusa/Klausen, Villandro/Villanders, Barbiano/Barbian, across the Renon/Ritten up to BolzanoBozen, the provincial capital. You’re not only guaranteed a good walk but also culinary and cultural enjoyment. Old churches, castles, ruins and chapels, country houses, wineries, rushing waterfalls and mystical spots are all there to be admired. Along the route gastronomic specialities will also entice you, as numerous wine growers and fruit farmers sell their delicious produce from their farms.
To elevate this theme to a gastronomic sphere the Valle Isarco Chestnut Weeks have been organised for the end of October to the beginning of November. Inns and restaurants along the route offer local people and visitors specialities made from chestnuts, using a very varied choice of recipes! At least twelve different chestnut dishes are on restaurant menus during this time: from delicious hors d’oeuvres to luxuriously rich desserts.
